Fernando Alonso has faith in F2012 for a strong 2012 showing – Formula 1 news

Fernando Alonso believes that the new Ferrari will show the results in 2012.

He said that the F2012 is different from its predecessors but that looks are not important results are and he is confident that the car will be much more competitive than 2011.

Alonso joined Ferrari in 2010 and narrowly missed on a world title. 2011 was a different scenario altogether, it showcased Sebastian Vettel’s dominance in the Red Bull car. The Ferrari car was not up to the benchmark and lacked competitiveness. Alonso though drove with a big heart and helped his team to reach the 3rd position in the constructors’ championship. He only had a singular Grand Prix win in the 2011 season at Silverstone.

Alonso gave his views on the new car and said that it is going to be really competitive the team has not worried about how it looks and focussed on the pace of the car.

“It looks very different actually from what we've seen in the past two years,” Alonso said. “It's the third Ferrari, the third season and I'm going to start with the same strength, force, determination; I really want to do great. It's going to be quite competitive and challenging as a season, but I really want to see red cars always on the podium so always winning. We will start next week in Jerez, we will keep working all together and I'm sure we will do great this year.”

Alonso added that the team has two months before the season starts in mid March and the team is working hard to prepare really well for the season opening Australian Grand Prix.

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has also been vocal about the team not doing well in 2011 and the importance of putting in all the effort to improve on last year’s showing.

Ferrari will has also said that it might hide some pace during the pre-season test in order hide its true potential which shows that the team is confident of a strong showing. The first pre-season test will take place at Jerez on February 7, 2012.

Feb.8 (GMM) A feature of the 2012 Ferrari car has not been seen in formula one for more than a decade, test driver Marc Gene has confirmed.

While the ‘stepped’ noses have been grabbing all the media’s attention, arguably more noteworthy is Ferrari’s decision to design its F2012 around ‘pullrod’ front suspension.

While some F1 teams have been using pullrod suspension at the rear of their cars, it has been essentially absent from the front since the 80s and 90s.

“The system seeks to lower the centre of gravity and improve the entry and operation of the air from the front to the rear to improve downforce,” Spaniard Gene wrote in the El Mundo newspaper.

“It was last seen at the front of Fernando Alonso’s Minardi in 2001,” he added.

After the first day of official testing on Tuesday, Ferrari designer Nikolas Tombazis said: “No one will be able to accuse us of having been timid in the design of this car.”

F2012 needs a lot of work

Massa: F2012 needs a lot of work

Although Ferrari have made it clear that they will use the Jerez test to "collect data" and "experiment with different solutions", the fans will no doubt be a little disappointed that the F2012 has not come close to matching the times of the front-runners.

Massa managed a 1:22.815 on day one and followed it up with a 1:20.454 on Wednesday which earned him seventh place.

The Brazilian says they are struggling to understand the new car.

"It is a very new car, and it is not a car (like the one) we had in the last years," he is quoted as saying by BBC Sport.

"It is a car that needs a lot of work, and (there are) a lot of things to try. I did so many laps just trying different things in the car. It was a programme to understand every single point in the car set-up.

"It is more or less what we expected to do. We had to try so many things but it was more or less in the right direction."

Ferrari Enzo Reviews,Photos and Specifications

Ferrari cars have always been one of the most coveted cars by many enthusiasts. When the company decided to develop the Enzo, there was a rave about what it will be like and how much it can offer to customers.
The Ferrari Enzo, a 650 horsepower super car named after its founder, was developed in 2002 using Formula One technology.
With the car already using carbon fiber for its body and an electro-hydraulic F1 transmission, more innovations were even made that were not present in the F1 such as aerodynamics and active traction control. Its ultra-light, V12 engine with four valves per cylinder was a first in the new generation of Ferrari cars. Sports Car International ranked the car third on their list of top sports cars of the year 2000. Consequently, it also ranked fourth in Motor Trend Classics' Ten Greatest Ferraris.
Performance
The Enzo was designed by Japanese Pininfarina head Ken Okuyama was initially introduced at the 2002 Motor Show in Paris and had a limited number of units priced at $ 659,330. Pininfarina wanted a car the will be entirely different from the usual approach used for its predecessors (GTO, F40 and 50). A mid-engine vehicle whose weight distribution is at 43.9 at the front and 56 in the rear, the Enzo has variable valve timing and dual overhead cams to add to its naturally aspirated engine.
It is designed with an automatic transmission (F1 gearbox) and uses paddles to control its clutch mechanism and automated shifting. The LED light right at the steering wheel tells the driver to shift gears as necessary. Their independent four wheel suspension with actuated shock absorbers are adjusted right inside the cabin and have front and rear anti-roll bars. The 19 inch wheels uses Brembo 15 inch disc brakes and are held by a lug nut. They are fitted with RE050A Potenza Scuderia tires. The car can accelerate up to 60 miles per hour in merely 3.14 seconds and reaches 100 miles per hour in a short 6.6 seconds.

Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano

The 599 GTB Fiorano (internal code F141) is an Italian gran turismo produced by Ferrari. It is the brand's two-seat flagship, replacing the 575 M Maranello in 2006 as a 2007 model.
Styled by Pininfarina under the direction of Ferrari'sFrank Stephenson, the 599 GTB debuted at theGeneva Motor Show in February 2006. It is named for its total engine displacement (5999 cc), Gran Turismo Berlinetta nature, and the Fiorano Circuittest track used by Ferrari.

Specifications

Drive train

The Tipo F140C 6.0 L (5999 cc) V12 engine produces a maximum 620 PS (456 kW; 612 hp), making it the most powerful series production Ferrari road car of the time. This is one of the few engines whose output exceeds 100 hp per liter of displacement without any sort of forced-induction mechanism such as supercharging or turbocharging. Its 608 N·m (448 ft·lbf) of torque will also be a new record for Ferrari's GT cars. Most of the modifications to the engine were done to allow it to fit in the Fiorano's engine bay (the original Enzo version could be taller as it would not block forward vision due to its mid-mounted position).
A traditional 6-speed manual transmission as well as Ferrari's 6-speed called "F1 SuperFast" is offered. Reviewers of the car have mentioned that the MagneRidesuspension gives the 599 a very comfortable ride but allows it to handle well at the same time.
The Fiorano also sees the debut of Ferrari's new traction control system, F1-Trac.

Performance

Performance claimed by Ferrari.
  • 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.7 seconds
  • 0-200 km/h (124 mph) in 11.0 seconds
  • Top speed: over 330 km/h (205 mph)

HGTE Package

An upgrade that improves the car's handling, meaning Handling Gran Turismo Evoluzione, includes a modified set-up with stiffer springs and rear anti-roll bar as well as new calibration settings for the magneto-rheological shock absorbers when the manettino is at its sportier settings. The ride height has also been lowered, which lowers the car's centre of gravity. The package also includes optimised tyres featuring a compound that offers improved grip. The car's electronics have also changed. The gearbox's shifts are faster in high-performance settings, while new engine software improved accelerator response. The exhaust silencer was modified to produce more marked and thrilling sound under hard usage whilst still delivering just the right comfort levels at cruising speed. The exterior and interior were upgraded with more carbon fibre components and it also includes new 20-inch wheels
