2010 HUNGARY GP: RED BULL DOMINANT FRIDAY ON HUNGARORING

FIRST FREE PRACTICE

Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber easily topped the timesheets during the first free practice session for the Hungarian Grand Prix, as Red Bull's new flexi-wing appeared to provide a significant advantage at the high-downforce Hungaroring. Third placed Robert Kubica, Renault, could only get within 1.096s of Vettel, but was 0.4s clear of fourth man Jenson Button (McLaren), who did not emerge until an hour had passed. His team-mate Lewis Hamilton was only 18th. Rubens Barrichello and Pedro de la Rosa took encouraging fifth and sixth places for Williams and Sauber, ahead of German GP winner Fernando Alonso's Ferrari, the two Mercedes, and Nico Hulkenberg in the second Williams.

SECOND FREE PRACTICE

Sebastian Vettel fastest again, but Alonso put on hold plans for a Red Bull procession this weekend by ending the day second fastest ahead of Mark Webber and Ferrari team-mate Felipe Massa. It was Red Bull that led the way for the vast majority of this session, with a close battle that saw team-mates Webber and Vettel repeatedly swap the top spot. Vettel finally worked down to a 1m20.087s on the super soft tyres, half a second quicker than Webber. Alonso then beat the Australian by 0.013 seconds 15 minutes by the end to secure second. Fourth-placed Massa was 0.899s down on Vettel's time. Vitaly Petrov answered his critics by enjoying one of his stronger sessions by finishing fifth fastest but McLaren may already be looking at damage limitation after Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button ended the day sixth and ninth fastest respectively.
