Lewis Hamilton is hoping the cooler temperatures at this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix will rule out a repeat of the tyre problems he suffered in Malaysia. Tyre degradation was high in the 30C Malaysian heat and Hamilton's race was compromised by a struggle on the hard tyres in his final three stints. He believes the McLaren is better suited to the cooler conditions in China, which should be roughly 10C lower, and is hopeful the latest upgrades on the car will come good.
Red Bull is hoping a "significant improvement" to its car for this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix will help it maintain its advantage over its rivals. Sebastian Vettel has taken pole position at and won the first two grands prix of the season, but rivals McLaren and Ferrari have both publicised upgrade packages for this weekend's race. Red Bull team consultant Helmut Marko has revealed his team is not resting on its laurels and will target its own performance boost at Shanghai.
Pirelli is investigating ways to reduce the amount of marbles created by its tyres over a race distance. The Italian tyre manufacturer returned to Formula One at the start of this year with the clear remit of increasing the amount of pit stops and making racing more exciting and unpredictable. To do so it developed a range of tyre compounds that degrade more quickly than the previous Bridgestone rubber.
